Abseil for Active Play With  St. Peter’s PTA  and Climb South West.

150 ft Dartmoor Abseil Challenge – 17th September 2016

This is your opportunity to challenge yourself (and your friends!) to help raise money for the school’s current “Active Play Appeal” by abseiling down Hay Tor.  The PTA need to raise £27,000 for new all-weather play equipment for our children, due for installation in Summer 2017. We’ve already raised £13,500 but we need your help!

This event will be run by one of our dads, Justin Nicholas – owner of Climb South West.  Justin is a fully qualified and insured Mountaineering Instructor, and is a member of the professional body, The Association of Mountaineering Instructors.

Who can join in? Adults and Secondary school age children. Any U16’s must be accompanied by a parent throughout. However, this is not limited to St. Peter’s – if you have friends from elsewhere who would enjoy the challenge, get them booked in!

What is the cost?  An abseil such as this would normally cost anywhere between £30- £90 but you will only need to pay £20 per person.

How much do I have to raise in sponsorship?  We ask that each participant attempts to raise at least £50 sponsorship money – but the sky’s the limit!  There will be a prize for the person who raises the most money..So, the challenge is on! We have set up a charity giving page at https://mydonate.bt.com/events/activeplay

Where is it? The abseil is from the top of Hay Tor, which is the highest point on Dartmoor. There are 360 degree panoramic views around Dartmoor from the top; it really is spectacular! We’ll provide more details when you book.

I’ve never abseiled before – can I join in?  Absolutely. Full instruction will be given on the day. There is a gentle slope into the start of the abseil, and Justin and his highly qualified staff will be there to guide you safely through it. They will even take a souvenir photo of each participant which will be available after the event.

Are there any limitations? To help us keep you safe, we will need to know about any pre-existing medical conditions on the attached booking form please. There is a maximum waist size of 42 inches and an upper weight limit of 20 stones.

How do I get involved? Please e-mail spsa.budleighsalterton@gmail.com, and we will send you the booking form. Complete and return the form with your entry fee of £20 by Thursday 21st July. (cheques payable to St Peter’s PTA please) Then you can get fundraising!

Although the abseil is for older children and adults, we do hope this will become a family event – bring a picnic and your children and spend the day at Hay Tor with us all.  You can watch the other people abseil and enjoy a day out on Dartmoor.

Don’t forget – this event is open to any adults, so your friends and family are also welcome to get involved.

Many thanks,

Jen Mills
