Each class is doing 'Reverse Advent' - please read
This advent we want to encourage the children to think of others, show love, compassion and thankfulness through their actions. In the run up to Christmas we are arranging a ‘Reverse Advent’ in each classroom. Each day we would like two children from the class to add an item of food to the classroom collection box. Your child’s teacher will let you know which day to send in food with your child. However, the donations are of course entirely optional. This will begin on Wednesday 5th December and will continue until Wednesday 19th December.
Suggestions for items are as follows: Cereals, tinned tomatoes, beans/spaghetti, dried potatoes (smash), tinned vegetables, tinned fish, tinned meat/meat pies, tinned fruit, tinned custard, rice pudding, biscuits, tea, coffee, sugar, squash, long life milk, pasta sauces, curry sauces and treats such as biscuits and chocolate bars. Non food items such as washing powder, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes and toilet rolls are also welcomed.
On the last day of term the food will be donated to Exmouth Food Larder which serves the local area, including Budleigh Salterton. Thank you in advance for your support.
We shall also be raising money for The Children’s Society in partnership with The Raleigh Mission Community who will be holding their annual Christingle services on 24th December at 3pm in St Michael’s Church, Otterton and at 5pm at St Peter’s Church, Budleigh.
Now in its 50th year, Christingle is a special, memorable celebration that takes place in thousands of churches and schools across the country. It is a great way for families to begin their Christmas celebrations.
Christingle raises vital funds to enable the Children’s Society to help children who are facing Christmas alone and help all children have a better chance in life. To help raise fund, children are offered a candle for collecting coins which can be brought to the Christingle services, or left at the school reception.
