Important information for the week

This week PE will be on Monday and Wednesday mornings.

Swimming is on Tuesday morning. Please send your child to school with a swimming costume, swimming hat and towel.

The curriculum for this term

In Sycamore Class we will begin Spring Term with the topic ‘Who Rules?’

We are going to learn about the Kings and Queens of England, parliament, the voting system, and London.

We are going to build a castle for our Design and Technology and we would like to invite one adult per child to come in and help us build our castles. This event will take place on Wednesday 22nd January at 2pm until home time at 3:30.

In Maths we are covering addition and subtraction. This will include:

  • recognising the +, – and = symbols (Year One)
  • beginning to record my numerical thinking (Reception)
  • finding number bonds to numbers up to and including 10 (Year One)
  • securely counting to ten and above (Reception)
  • counting on and counting back from numbers up to ten (Reception) and twenty (Year One)
  • using a number line, tens frame, and numicon to represent objects (Reception and Year One)
  • crossing ten when adding and subtracting (Year One)

Current home-learning expectations

We have learned the 2 times table. See if your child can show off what they know! Chant the 2s together and see if they can fill in the numbers you miss out.

Our expectation is that children in Year One should read for ten minutes a day and that children in Reception should read for five minutes a day.

Reading books need to come to school to be changed on a Monday and Thursday. Please have your reading pouches in school everyday. If your child brings home spellings they will be tested and changed every Friday.

This video will be helpful for those of you who wish to learn how we teach the sounds to your children as they learn to read. By watching this video you will be able to be consistent with what your child is learning at school:

Any other information?

If your child works with Mrs Gray their Jelly Bean reading packs must come to school every Tuesday and Wednesday please.

These are the rhymes we use to teach letter formation. If you are practising spellings at home and wish to support your child with their handwriting at the same time, you could use these rhymes to consolidate what is taught in school.
