Term 3:

We hope you have all had a fabulous Christmas holiday. We have already been very busy this term saving animals and dinosaurs from ice and exploring snowy small world play and playdough! We are really focusing on independence this term. By Easter we are aiming for all children to put on their coats (and do them up), shoes and socks independently. Your help at home with this is greatly appreciated! Please take the time to promote independence and practice these skills at any opportunity. :)This term our Talk for Writing story will be ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. We will be adding actions to the story so that we can tell off by heart. We would love to share some different versions of the story if your child has it at home and would like to bring it in. Please add your child’s name to their book.

In Phonics we are going to be listening to syllables in words and begin to listen to the initial sounds in words. We will continue to practise handwriting patterns. We will also practice reading and writing our names.

We will continue to count to ten and then to twenty and will focus on careful counting skills to count small amounts of objects. We’ll encourage number recognition, initially for numbers to 5. As we make our own porridge we will explore weighing and measuring.

Our daily Physical and PSED development programme called ‘Sherbourne’ will continue to take place each day in the school hall. It is an excellent session that supports children’s physical strength, co-ordination and balance as well as friendships and listening skills.

Here is some other key information for this term:
