Fantastic Musical Performance in the Great Hall at Exeter University last Friday
Last Friday 27 of our pupils from St. Peters and 4 pupils from Lympstone Primary School attended a workshop in the Great Hall at Exeter University alongside 350 children and professional musicians from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
The event consisted of a massed schools ensemble rehearsing together under the baton of Will Goodchild – the Associate Conductor of the orchestra.
In the evening, the children then performed to a packed out hall of over 1400 people – 3 pieces of Orchestral Music – Purcell’s Rondeau (Abdelazar), an extract from Bizet’s Toreador’s Song Suite Number 2 and Aaron Copland’s Hoe Down (Rodeo).
The audience and pupils were also entertained by the players from the Devon Youth Concert Orchestra, The Exeter University Brass Ensemble and a Double Reeds Ensemble. Finally the players from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra performed an orchestrated version of Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor and a movement from Shostakovich’s 10th Symphony.
Mrs Lewis and Mr Moger-Taylor were very impressed by our pupils’ musicianship and enthusiasm. The children were wonderful ambassadors for the school. It was a wonderful experience for the children to perform as part of a large orchestra.
Mrs Lewis and Mr Moger-Taylor would like to say a special thank you to the volunteers who supported the children at this event- Chris Gould, Graham Pearson, Karen Eaves, Julie Cotton, Liz Walton-Salih, Jo Pearcey and Ruth Taylor. Thank you also to all the parents who came along to watch the performance in the evening.
(Mrs Lewis took some more photos of the event that we will post shortly)
